Missional Communities

As God has blessed us with a community we love, we pray we can share our community with others. If you are reading this and find yourself interested in starting a missional community where you live, we would love that. Our dream is for communities like ours to thrive all over the country, each loving their neighbors as Christ would and joining God on mission in every context.

Baby Drop Box

In almost every state in the United States, there are laws designed to protect newborn babies. These laws are collectively known as “safe haven laws.” In South Carolina we have Daniel’s Law, which was named after an infant who was saved from being buried alive in a landfill. This Law states that parents can surrender a child under the age of 60 days old at a “Safe Haven” without any repercussions and in anonymity. What many clergy are unaware of is that Churches are designated “Safe Havens” and are required to receive Daniel’s Law babies and transfer them to DSS. Our idea would be to open this door for child protection even wider. Similar to the incubators found in a hospital’s NICU, these baby drop boxes would provide a safe and dignified path to surrender their child in dignity. We believe our Missional Community’s calling to be pro-life extends beyond the womb and we hope we can help protect the vulnerable.

Equity Building Rental Management

As a Missional Community, we challenge each person in our group to reach toward home ownership, because we recognize that the equity built through home ownership can lead to long-term financial security, and we believe we should be good stewards of the resources God has given us. Many of us are unable to purchase homes due to the recent increase in interest rates and the skyrocketing housing market. This seemingly novel idea would require a lot of planning to become sustainable, but if possible, we would want to extend the equity building benefit of home ownership to every member of society. The premise in this idea would be to build on income-adjusted rent and create a rental service where additional contributions are credited to the tenant as equity that can be used for the purchase of a house. With this accrued equity along with education on how to leverage equity and build a successful home we hope that as a tenant’s income rises they will see their equity rise as well and be empowered to purchase a permanent home.

Non-profit Software Development

Several of the members of our Missional Community work in software development, so this idea is pretty straightforward. We believe that God blesses us so that we can bless others and this applies to more than just money or achievement. We want to use our skills to better empower God’s people to accomplish what He has put before them. So, if you are a member of a non-profit or know someone who is and you would like enterprise level software to help manage your donors, clients, or volunteers, we would love to help!

Church Historian

Winston Churchill once said, “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” Unfortunately, we do not know the histories of our churches or even church history at large. Because of this, we think it would be beneficial to write the stories of churches. This would entail how the church started, when influential members joined or left, or major events that shaped the life of the church. We think something like this could bridge the generational gap and inform future generations of the struggles and bright successes of those who have come before. Additionally, when people know their history, they are bound together by it and are more equipped to value and learn from the journey that has led to their current situation. We hope to bring new life to our churches by appreciating where we have come from and learning from our mistakes as well.
